The internet is a fascinating place where you can enjoy cat videos, debate with strangers, and sometimes mistakenly share your credit card information with a prince from a faraway land who simply requires your assistance.

But fear not! Microsoft Edge has a built-in scareware blocker and turning it on is easy!

What is Scareware Anyway?

Imagine you’re browsing peacefully, procrastinating during your remote work, looking up whether turtles can actually outrun snails, when suddenly—BAM! A red flashing pop-up screams, "YOUR COMPUTER HAS 500 VIRUSES!!! CLICK NOW TO FIX IT!!!"

Your heart races, your palms sweat, and before you know it, you're downloading a "fix" that’s actually the problem.

That, my friend, is scareware.

It's designed to freak you out and trick you into installing malware, buying fake software, or calling a sketchy hotline where "tech support" will gladly take your money (and possibly your soul).

Fortunately, Edge can help you avoid these digital booby traps.

How to Enable Scareware Blocker on Microsoft Edge

To enable the AI-powered Scareware Blocker on your Edge browser, use these steps:

  1. Click the "..." button from the top-right or just "ALT+F" and select the Settings option.

  2. Click on "Privacy, search, and services" from the left pane.

  3. Turn on the Scareware blocker toggle switch under the "Security" section.

Microsoft Video for More Information:

Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome are actually quite similar under the hood. Both are built on Chromium, an open-source project, which means you can use extensions from one browser on the other.

So, if you’re switching to Edge for its security features, you won’t have to give up your favorite Chrome extensions!
